Certified Digital Accessibility Training Project (Project reference number: KA2-VET-16/18)

Synopsis

The project aims to develop specialized digital accessibility training and accessible e-learning platform to improve the knowledge, skills, and competencies of diverse groups of key stakeholders. 

The training follows web accessibility standards and enables website developers, designers, managers, and others to respond to the needs of visual, auditory, physical, or cognitive disabled, as well as older persons.

This project offers specialized courses for these following positions: 

  • Digital Accessibility Manager 
  • Digital Accessibility Tester
  • Web developer with expertise in digital accessibility
  • Web designer with expertise in digital accessibility

Target Audience

Trainers, teachers, and others actors interested in improving the access to the training resources for any user, regardless his/her personal situation.

Goals

Developing a set of  special digital accessibility training and accessible tools to improve the knowledge, skills, and competencies of trainers, teachers, and other actors interested in implementing training activities to diverse groups of key stakeholders. 

The training follows web accessibility standards and enables website developers, designers, managers, and others to respond to the needs of visual, auditory, physical, or cognitive disabled, as well as older persons.

  • Technical skills related to the development of digital accessible contents:
    • Understanding digital accessibility
    • Managing the technical aspects of web accessibility
    • Accessible web content
    • Accessible visual web design (and CSS)
    • Creating accessible images
    • Creating accessible multimedia materials
    • Accessible page structuring
    • Site navigation and orientation
    • Creating accessible tables
    • Creating accessible forms
    • Basics of accessible scripting and WAI-ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications)
    • Mobile accessibility
    • Accessibility conformance evaluation
  • Other soft skills: communication, empathy and willingness to help people with disabilities, management and organizational skills (planning, organizing, motivating, controlling).
  • Other: Guide/checklist to verify the skills to be applied

Why is it a good practice in the accessibility area?

Because it expands the knowledge for everybody (eliminating barriers),  adapting the materials and tools to the European standards on accessibility.

Training Team that is necessary to implement the activities

  • Digital Accessibility Manager Training Module: Staff with basic IT knowledge, university or college education or working experience at management position, empathy and willingness to help people with disabilities, management and organizational skills (planning, organizing, motivating, controlling).

  • Digital Accessibility Tester Training Module: Staff with knowledge of internet use, openness to new technologies, basic understanding of the needs of people with various disabilities, basic IT knowledge, understanding the basics of digital accessibility, strong analytical skills, ability to create clear bug report.

  • Web Developer with expertise in Digital Accessibility Training Module: Staff with knowledge in web development, or degree in computer science, Knowledge of web technologies/front end code (e.g. CSS, Java script and HTML).
  • Web Designer with expertise in Digital Accessibility Training Module: Staff with knowledge of ICT domains, expert knowledge and skills in web design, and designing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator etc., knowledge of assisted technology (e.g. Screen Reader, DragonNaturallySpeaking, Zoom and Colour contrast, JAWS, NVDA), knowledge of web technologies/front end code (e.g. CSS, Java script and HTML), understanding basics of web accessibility, graphic skills and creativity, knowledge of graphics software, UX, Strong sense of aesthetics, experience in creation of visual art.
